چکیده

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE To present a novel case of paracentral acute middle maculopathy in association with birdshot chorioretinopathy. METHODS Case report. RESULTS A patient presented with decreased vision and findings of uveitis, vasculitis and a paracentral scotoma. Multimodal imaging was consistent with paracentral acute middle maculopathy in the setting of a multifocal chorioretinopathy and a laboratory workup was consistent with birdshot chorioretinopathy. CONCLUSION Paracentral acute middle maculopathy is a newly described entity that may be associated with birdshot chorioretinopathy, and clinicians should be aware of it when patients present with new paracentral scotoma and signs of intraocular inflammation.

Birdshot chorioretinopathy: current knowledge and new concepts in pathophysiology, diagnosis, monitoring and treatment.

Birdshot chorioretinopathy (BCR) is a rare form of chronic, bilateral, posterior uveitis with a distinctive clinical phenotype, and a strong association with HLA-A29. It predominantly affects people in middle age. Given its rarity, patients often encounter delays in diagnosis leading to delays in adequate treatment, and thus risking significant visual loss. Recent advances have helped increase ...

Birdshot Retinochoroidopathy

Birdshot retinochoroidopathy (BSRC) is an uncommon, but well-characterized chronic, bilateral posterior uveitis, which is uniquely associated with the human leukocyte antigen-A29 phenotype. The disease presents predominantly in middle-aged Caucasian females who complain of blurred vision, floaters, photopsias, paracentral scotomas and nyctalopia. While autoimmune mechanisms are thought to play ...

Paracentral Acute Middle Maculopathy and Acute Macular Neuroretinopathy: Related and Distinct Entities.

Type 1 acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN), also known as paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM), is a novel form of AMN in which spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) demonstrates a characteristic hyper-reflective band-like lesion at the level of the inner nuclear layer. This form of AMN has only recently been described in five patients who were predominantly older men wi...

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography and En Face Optical Coherence Tomography Features of Paracentral Acute Middle Maculopathy.

PURPOSE To characterize the optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography, en face OCT, and microperimetry features of paracentral acute middle maculopathy in both the acute phase and after resolution, and to propose a classification of distinct subtypes of this entity. DESIGN Retrospective observational case series. METHODS Clinical histories, high-resolution digital color imaging, spectr...

A genome-wide association study identifies a functional ERAP2 haplotype associated with birdshot chorioretinopathy.

Birdshot chorioretinopathy (BSCR) is a rare form of autoimmune uveitis that can lead to severe visual impairment. Intriguingly, >95% of cases carry the HLA-A29 allele, which defines the strongest documented HLA association for a human disease. We have conducted a genome-wide association study in 96 Dutch and 27 Spanish cases, and 398 unrelated Dutch and 380 Spanish controls. Fine-mapping the pr...
